Club Canine: Reminders for Parents
|
- Please make reservations for your dog in advance. We really need to know how
many dogs to expect each day so we can staff appropriately. If you’ve forgotten to
make a reservation, it’s still OK (for now!) to bring your dog anyway, so please don’t
worry if you call in the morning and only get the voice mail, since we’re usually busy
checking dogs in and can rarely get to the phone. If we occasionally have an extra dog
or two from what we expected, that’s fine. What we’re trying to do is get away from
expecting 25 dogs, but then winding up with 35 or 40 on a regular basis! If you can
tell us in advance for the whole week, that’s preferable, but even just leaving us a
message the day before you plan to come is OK too. There’s no need to ask permission
to bring in your dog, so unless you have a special request or question, please feel free
to just leave a message telling us when you’ll be here! (Of course if your dog comes on
pre-set days, then there’s no reason to call us at all - unless your schedule changes.)
- Drop Off Time: Club Canine officially opens at 7:30 am. We can usually
accommodate requests for drop-offs as early as 7 am, except on Monday mornings
when we ask that you wait until 7:30 am to drop off your dog (unless you've made
special arrangements in advance).
- While there's no need to have your dog here right as we open, we do require that
all dogs are here by 10:00 am. Each arrival causes a huge spike in overall arousal
levels, so the sooner everyone is here, the quicker the group settles down and plays
more nicely. (We also have a few dogs who don't do well with the higher arousal levels
during drop-off time, so they have to wait until everybody is here to go into the
playroom...)
- Pick Up Time: Our "regular" pick-up time is after 5 pm. You MUST notify us if
your dog will be picked up before 5 pm on any certain day. Please tell us that
morning what time your dog will be picked up, so that we can have him in the airlock
waiting for you when you arrive. Or, if it's an unexpected early pick-up, please give
us at least 10 minute's notice by calling ahead, and be sure to leave a message on our
voice mail if we don't answer, because we do check messages frequently in the
afternoons for this specific reason.
The reason for this policy is simple: Pick-up time is just particularly chaotic, since by
that time all the dogs are tired and hungry, and they ALL want to be the next one
through the exit gate! Many other daycares require pick-ups be only after a certain
time of day, and then they crate almost all the dogs during pick-ups. We would like to
avoid having to resort to such drastic measures, so we take only the few dogs who're
the worst gate-troublemakers out of the playroom area at 5 pm. Arriving here
unexpectedly before 5 pm makes it extremely difficult for us to get your dog through
the gate SAFELY. It's no problem to pick up your dog any time you want, as long as
you just let us know in advance if it will be before 5 pm!! (Pick-ups after 5 pm are
still allowed at any time, with no specific notice required.)
- Late Pick-Ups: Club Canine closes at 6:30 pm. If you need to pick up your dog
later than 6:30, please let us know, and we can probably accommodate your request,
but we need to know this in advance. Also, please call us if you are running late
unexpectedly.
- Yappy Hour on Friday Evenings: Yappy Hour is from 6:30 - 8 pm on the first and
third Fridays of the month. On those Fridays, you’re welcome to join your dog in the
playroom after 6:30 pm, but all daycare-only dogs must be picked up, or have you here
with them by 6:30 pm.
- Leashes: All dogs must enter and exit Club Canine on a leash! We have quite a few
dogs who don't do well on leashes, and will get very snarky if a dog runs up to them in
the lobby or out front on the stairs, etc. (MANY dogs who play beautifully off-leash
get aggressive on-leash, so just because they're friends in daycare doesn't mean
they'll "play nicely" in the lobby!)
- Leashes part 2: Please bring your dogs in on regular leashes, not retractable
leashes. We not only have trouble hanging the retractable leashes on our hooks, but I’
ve had several instances where dogs have taken-out half the lobby! Retractable
leashes just don’t provide as much control as we require in our small lobby!
- Authorized Picks-Ups: Please notify us if someone we’ve never met will be picking
your dog up from daycare.
- Flea/Tick prevention: All dogs attending Club Canine MUST be on a monthly flea
and tick treatment at least April through November (although year round is even
better, since most products control other parasites as well) . Be sure you use a
product recommended by your veterinarian such as Frontline or Advantage. (Over-the-
counter products are not nearly as effective or as SAFE!)
